Following Ai-chan’s suggestion, I had come on a trip to Okinawa.

“Waaaaaah! It’s the sea────!! The ocean, Kanata────────!!”

“Whoa!? That’s insane! Is it really this beau-ti-ful!?”

An Okinawan resort hotel. We were guided into a spacious, luxurious room, and the ocean view spreading out before us had us completely hyped up.

“I’m so glad we chose Okinawa! Staying at a hotel with a view like this—this really is the best honeymoon ever!”

“Yeah! And it’s all thanks to you, Ai-chan. Thanks for choosing this place!”

This trip was planned by Ai-chan. It was meant both as a thank-you for everything I usually do, and as our honeymoon—something we’d never been able to go on because we were so busy.

I’d always wanted to travel with Ai-chan someday, but we never had the time…… So having her invite me like this honestly got me really excited.

“Alright then, let’s head outside right away! ……Ah, but the sun’s about to set. Maybe we should save swimming in the ocean for tomorrow.”

It had taken quite a while to get to the hotel. We were staying for three nights, so there was no need to rush, but it still felt a little wasteful.

“Then let’s go watch the sunset outside! The timing should be just perfect, right?”

“Oh, nice! Let’s go, let’s go!”

Watching a sunset by the ocean would be a first for me. It was probably going to be really beautiful……!

Excited, I tried to head out of the hotel. But Ai-chan didn’t look like she was coming with me.

“Ai-chan……? What’s wrong? Let’s go together.”

“Nope. I’ll go later, so Kanata, you go ahead to the beach!”

“Huh……? Why? If you’ve got something to do, I can wait, but……”

“It’s fine, it’s fine! Just go on ahead! I’ll catch up right away!”

She pushed me from behind, forcing me out into the hallway.

W-What was that about……? I don’t get it at all…… Why make only me go ahead……?

Still confused, I found myself locked out of the room without the key. At that point, I had no choice but to do as she said and head to the beach first.

Wondering what was going on, I left the hotel alone and stood on the shore.

“Whoa……”

Seeing it again from outside, the scenery really was incredible.

White, silky sand. Gentle waves rolling in and out. The ocean stretching far into the distance was beautifully illuminated by the setting sun, sparkling as it reflected the light. Even the salty breeze brushing against my skin felt uniquely pleasant.

“I’m really glad we came……”

Thinking that once more, I soaked in the ocean with my whole body. I stood there for a while, quietly watching the sun sink below the horizon.

“Yah-hoo, Kanata. Sorry to keep you waiting.”

A voice called my name from behind. I snapped back and turned around.

“Oh, Ai-chan! Look at this view, it’s so beau—”

I caught sight of her.

In that instant, I lost my words.

“Ehehe…… Kanata, what do you think? About this outfit……”

Ai-chan was wearing a pure white dress. A gorgeous, fluffy-looking dress decorated with plenty of frills.

There was no doubt about it.

It was a wedding dress.

Wearing that special dress, she stood there on the sandy beach.

“Ai-chan……! Why are you dressed like that……!?”

“Now then, why do you think? By the way, doesn’t this dress look familiar?”

“Huh…… familiar……?”

I had seen Ai-chan in a wedding dress twice before. The first time was, of course, our wedding. And the other time was……

“Could it be…… from your very first magazine interview……”

“Ding-dong, ding-dong! Correct!”

Ai-chan laughed and flashed a peace sign. Did she really bring that dress with her……?

“But why go out of your way to do that? That dress must take up a lot of luggage.”

“Because, Kanata, when I wore this dress for the first time, you were so happy, right? Since it’s our honeymoon, I wanted to make you happy again.”

Ai-chan looked at me with a smile that seemed to overflow with happiness from deep in her heart.

Ai-chan…… To think she’d prepared a surprise like this just for me……!

“So? What do you think, seeing me in my wedding dress again?”

“Yeah…… I can’t even put it into words……”

Ai-chan standing by the ocean at sunset, dressed in a wedding gown…… This was already a work of art. You could put this scene straight on the cover of a magazine and it would look perfect.

“Ehehe. I’m glad you liked it. ──Hey, Kanata. Since I’m dressed like this, I want to say it properly, once again.”

She straightened up, looking at me seriously. Then, quietly, she began to speak.

“In sickness and in health, in times of joy and in times of sorrow, in hardship and in poverty, I vow to love you, Kanata.”

“Ai-chan……!”

“So, Kanata, I’d be happy if you’d vow it too. Will you love me forever?”

As she asked, Ai-chan held out one hand toward me.

I took that hand immediately and answered.

“Of course. I swear I’ll love you forever too, Ai-chan. I’ll make you happy for the rest of your life……!”

“Yeah…… Kanata, I love you……!”

I pulled Ai-chan’s hand and held her close.

And until the sun had completely set, the two of us stayed there, holding each other, reaffirming our love again and again.
